Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are affixed to the back of the teeth instead of the front, making them virtually impossible for anyone to see.

They function on the same principle as traditional braces, gently manipulating the alignment of your teeth until they reach the desired positioning. Many brands provide lingual braces, the most popular being the 3M Incognito® system.

Patients who need braces but are worried about the conventional train-track appearance should consider the Incognito® brand. These braces attach to the back of the teeth, so they are significantly less visible than traditional braces.

Each set of Incognito® braces is completely customised for each patient to maximise results and minimise discomfort. They are suitable for children, teens or adults.

Incognito® is also a good option for people who play contact sports or wind instruments, for whom traditional braces might get in the way. They produce visible results in a short time while remaining hidden throughout the process.

The positioning of Incognito® braces also means there is no risk of decalcification of the front surface of your teeth, and the gold alloy brackets also make them suitable for patients with nickel allergies.

FAQs

Will anyone be able to see my lingual brace?

The vast majority of your friends, family and colleagues will have no idea that you’re wearing a brace unless you tell them. However, although hidden, lingual braces aren’t invisible, and if someone goes to the effort to look inside your mouth, they might be able to spot your brace.

Will the lingual brace affect my speech?

Some patients have no problems at all, but you might find that you have a slight lisp to begin with. To help your tongue adapt to your brace, we recommend reading the Rainbow Passage – a famous passage that provides a good sample of English sounds. Practice makes perfect!

What are the benefits of gold brackets?

Some systems use gold alloy brackets, which are a great choice for anyone who suffers from a nickel allergy.

Will my lingual brace be uncomfortable?

Lingual brackets have been carefully designed to hug your teeth closely to minimise any potential discomfort.

However, your tongue is very sensitive, so anything new in your mouth is going to feel a little strange at first, and you might find that initially, your brace causes you some mild discomfort. To help with this, we can give you some wax to cover any parts of your brace that are rubbing against your tongue.

How much will treatment cost?

Moderate to complex treatments with lingual braces start from £5,995. However, in mild cases where you only need your front teeth straightened, costs start from £2,995.

Attend this clinic regularly and just completed having a tooth implant. It is not cheap but the dentist is very good. Kind, gentle and encouraging. The treatment was completely painless and trouble-free. The dental nurse was also very helpful and the receptionists are very kind and accommodating. I lost the slip of paper with their names but am grateful to them all. I don't live locally to this practice but they are so good I am more than happy to continue my dental care with them. I would definitely recommend this practice and especially if you are nervous.

Came off my bike a few weeks ago on the black ice. Lost 3 upper front teeth and looked scary. When Dr Joselin saw me in reception she took me in without an appointment to scan my teeth. Temp teeth arrived in 3 days!!!! So at least i vould smile again. Root canals followed and today i was crowned. I didn't think they could do anything with my stumps but i have beautiful teeth again. She is an artist! They all have been so kind to me. Dr Joselin, Ania, the root canal lady....and Joe. Amazing. And on Fulham Palace Road. And treatment was never painful. Thank you so much

Truly excellent. The team (Ania, Anita and Joe) really helpful and accommodated an emergency appointment at short notice. Newly refurbish practise with all-new equipment and spotlessly clean. Dr Pedro was particularly knowledgeable and informative carrying out intricate work to a failed implant abutment (implanted by others three years ago); this type of failure is very rare so it took a lot of tenacity and patience. I have nothing but good things to say about Alma Smiles, I have been attending there for around 4 years. The upgrade to the clinic is wonderful and the team are very friendly and helpful. Dr Adam has been my dentist for the last couple of years and I have to say I trust him implicitly (which I never thought I would do with a dentist in London). He gives great honest advice and nothing is ever too much. He even came in on his day off to fit my crown because there had been a long delay at the lab and he didn't want me to wait any longer.Joe on the front desk is always helpful and friendly and all of the hygienists and dental nurses have always been very professional and friendly.I find their pricing very reasonable too compared to some other dentists in my neighbourhood.Highly recommend!

A great dental practice!Had two of my four tooth extractions with Dr Blanca & Anita yesterday. I was incredibly nervous going in, but these superstars were very kind and understanding throughout the whole process.I was given as many breaks as I felt I needed, constantly asked how I'm feeling & once the process was done, they were very caring to make sure I was feeling alright. I can't stress enough how much the professionalism of this practice played into how pleasant my experience has been (... as pleasant as a tooth extraction can be).From the first interactions at reception to leaving, this was one of the best experiences I've had from a dental practice. The clinic was reccomended to me by my dentist, and although it's a little way for me to get there, it's worth it.

I got this recommended by NHS as my closest. Not ideal, waiting a week for emergency appointment - but it’s not their fault how public health services access works in UK. Hence I’ve never had a dentist here, just flew abroad.However, once you’re in - prepare to be amazed. They’re kind, they listen, the clinic is new and excellently equipped. I have been a patient with Dr Pedro for just over 6 years now. Previous to that I had suffered with my teeth for many years, mainly due to taking medication since I was young. Lovely people and the staff have helped me tremendously. Any question I have is always answered with great detail, and they're calming and reassuring when I'm nervous about injections. They are also clear in which course of action is best, explaining all options with the pros and cons, which is very appreciated.

Incredible! The best dentist i’ve been to. The staff are so friendly, the manager was so welcoming and really reassured me when I kept asking so many questions in regards to my dental issues. I have never felt so comfortable in a dentist. Honestly what a great team and its great to find a dentist that actually cares about their patients.
